Will the laser etching damage my gadget?
ANSWER: NO
Why?
Because the laser used is low power, it will work on the surface only.
We started this company because we know what we do
and we love gadgets
I have very important data on my Gadget/Laptop, is it
safe with you?
ALL CUSTOMERS CAN REMOVE BATTERIES/ SIM CARDS OR PASSWORD BLOCK
THEIR DEVICES PRIOR TO ENGRAVING.
WE ONLY WORK ON THE SURFACE OF THE DEVICE
AS A PLUS, YOU CAN SEE HOW OUR TECHNICIAN WORKS ON YOUR
DEVICE FOR THE 15-30 MINUTES THE ETCHING LASTS.
OUR JOB IS VERY "SUPERFICIAL" IN NATURE.
Will the laser burn my ipod/gadget?
No.
A proper analogy is: The laser will not go deeper than a deep scratch with
your car keys in a handbag.
To think the laser will burn through the iPod is as likely as your car keys
puncturing and splitting in two your iPod inside a handbag during a normal day.
Not impossible but very very unlikely.
(obviously unlike the laser, the keys can't really change the metal at the molecular level)
Do you etch on any material?
Most metals and plastics can be etched without a problem (if we cannot do it we
will tell you)
Are there any exceptions?
Yes.
We do not engrave on vinyl or PVC, they produce toxic fumes during etching (if we
cannot do it we will tell you)
Do you engrave other gadgets besides iPods?
Yes.
However, as said before if the material does not allow it, we will not try to etch it.
Different materials require different laser power levels so not all gadgets are
engraved the same way
Do you prevent theft?
No. We discourage it.
Any engraved ipod is far less attractive for any thief than a
blank one, reason: It is hard to sell, especially if it has a
cartoon character or a name that you love but the thief would
not.
Saying anybody can prevent theft would be illogical and
unrealistic, ask the police, they already have a hard time
trying that kind of job.
How can it be black and permanent on metal?
A special thermoreactive compound is used that fuses itsel into the metal surface
when exposed to the laser. Thermoreactive means that it reacts with the heat of the laser only
How sharp/fine is the tattoo?
Extremely sharp.
We can go as high as 1200 dpi, in other words photographic quality.
Is it permanent?
Yes it is.
Is the finished black TATTOO on metal toxic?
No, it is not.
The spray we use, the compound is as toxic as most thinner based paint (spray can) and it has to be handled properly while still fresh, after the laser fuses the compound to the metal it is
completely part of it and it is not toxic once it is etched, the metal is chemically changed that is why the tattoo is permanent.
The company that makes the thermoreactive product, is certified to sell it in the
US and Canada.
How is it done?
In 3 steps
1. Your ipod is wrapped in platic for protection, only the area to be lasered is
exposed
2.We spray the compound on the ipod
3. We laser it, then we thoroughly clean it and we give it back to you
The compound is fused to the metal, and becomes part of the surface of the ipod
How powerful is the Laser? 25-45 watts
What kind of laser is it? A VERY GOOD ONE
What is the thickness of the finished black layer?
Nearly as thin as the chrome layer on most ipods, and as durable.
In other words: IT WILL LAST AS LONG AS THE CHROME ON YOUR iPod
Will the tattoo last even if I used heavy machinery to sand it away?
ANSWER:
Why would anybody want to do that?
We received this question and really, we were not going to answer it but.. well...
For the sake of absurd argument, lets just say that someone was under the
influence of 5 different drugs or was born that way and wanted to use heavy
machinery on the ipod to sand away the tattoo...the answer is "No" neither the
tattoo nor the ipod would withstand that.
If a someone interested in sanding away sevral ipods sent this mail just to see if we would answer...
let's not forget that "thieves like it easy", and sanding away is a really really hard job,
and thieves are very unlikely to use heavy machinery on every ipod they steal and evern less likely on cell phones and laptops.
